Red Lion Pub (revisited) - Mexborough
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.5 лет назад
I filmed this a number of years ago, and it looks pretty unsafe now. After searching online, I found this “PLANNING COMMITTEE - 4th February 2014: Conversion of existing public house to form 4 apartments, erection of pitched roof apartment block containing 12 apartments following part demolition of Red Lion Hotel”.
Sportsman Pub - Mexborough
Просмотров 6235 лет назад
This place has been closed for a year or so now; such a shame to see yet another Mexborough pub lost. I’m not sure what the plan is for this site, but judging by the state of the building it’ll be demolished. The pub had a number of signs over the years, the last one depicting Mike Hawthorn in his Ferrari. Mike clinched the 1958 Formula One World Championship on October 19, 1958, in Casablanca,...

Remains of old colliery line bridge -- Pastures Mexborough/Denaby
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.12 лет назад
Not really much to see here, but I reckon most people pass here not know this old bridge remnant is there. It's situated along the long chalk/limestone path heading east towards Denaby from Pastures Road on the popular cycle route. I think it linked the DVR with Denaby Colliery before the river Dearne was re-routed. If anyone has further info please post.

Video taken 15th Jan 2012, showing the new building work here. This will soon open as a £7 Million outdoor activity centre for children, and according to the local 'Weekender' paper "The response to the new centre has been overwhelming." The new site is being built on the former Earth Centre (see some of my other videos), which was also the site of Cadeby Colliery. Incidentally, the Cadeby Pit ...

What a shame! Another lovely building falling into disrepair. The last time I passed here was early last year I believe, and it was still open - although it was starting to look rather shabby. Unfortunately I've never had a pint in here so have no idea what it was like; I loved the little stream to the rear, I think it would have been a pleasant way to spend a summer evening sat on the wall wit...

I was always thought it was a hard area to live in...as at that time...there were just pits, pit stacks, trains, coking plants, poisonous fumes, soot...and hard looking men...worked all times of the day and night...biggest industril complex in Europe around Wath, Rawmarsh and Mexbrough...tough places, tough folk...but most of em were selfless and kind too...and very close communities...live away now, but coming back in a few yrs...I shall watch all the video later...help me write my book(s)...aaar, themt wo daze...and I'm still in a daze...we wanted coal not dole...but we came up agen a group of rich and powerful demons...incited by Satam imself...aar reckons...

Excellent video and thanks for making it. I only became aware of this line when staying in Devon this year and using the cycle path. Whilst being a beautiful cycle path ( I understand there is a plan afoot to join the two parts up although not sure how they plan to do this) it does seem incredible that such a useful piece of infrastructure could have been dismissed so readily.

Trains 🚊 used to run 🏃‍♂️ from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe via Braunton from July 1874 until Saturday 1st October 1970 had lasted for 96 years. The reason it was ceased it’s business 👨‍💼 on Saturday 3rd October 1970 because the railway 🚃 line became unviable and couldn’t be trusted anymore which sadly went. The railway 🚃 ticket 🎫 🎟️ staff had found out because he/she counts on how many railway 🚃 passengers used the train 🚆. The railway 🚃 line was closed over 5 previous years before I was born. I was born on Tuesday 9th March 1976 which seems like 👍 it happened yesterday. In 1964, steam trains 🚊 stopped running 🏃‍♂️ from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe via Braunton and replaced by first generation DMUS - Diesel ⛽️ Multiple Units, track was reduced from double track to single track in 1967, trains 🚊 had its final service on Saturday 3rd October 1970 and finally the train 🚆 track was lifted in 1975 is nearly 50 previous years ago when it comes to 2025. I’m sure ✔️ 👌 ☑️ that 2 years will come and go quickly from 2023 because life is short. I have walked on the disused railway 🚃 line near Mortehoe to and from Ilfracombe and it’s a good 👍 former railway 🚃 line and it’s near the reservoir. It makes me feel happy 😊. Touch wood 🪵 to say that no trains 🚊 are running 🏃 to Ilfracombe anymore at any time 🕰️ because let’s face it, the houses 🏡 🏠 🏘️ have trapped over the former railway 🚃 and north Devon is a bloody small place. I honestly like 👍 the old railway 🚃 line. It’s good 👍. Also Ilfracombe is a small place is still a town that could become a village if many shops 🏬 🏬 🏬 are closed. Ilfracombe could be the worst town in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. I live in Ilfracombe. 👍 😀 😄

Thank You for sharing this video. It brought back a lot of memories. I lived in Goldthorpe 1962-1981, very close to the Buxton Arms, which I visited many times. I studied Geology at Mexborough 6th Form College, and went down Highgate Pit on a Geology "Field Trip" in 1980. My Father and Grandfather were Coal Miners (Barnburgh Main Colliery). I recognised most of the Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe landmarks in the video. Truly a walk down memory lane - Thank You :)
